This is the Far Side of the Moon ...
..... which is the correct term for the hemisphere of the Moon that always faces away from Earth. This iconic image was taken by Apollo 16. Of course we no longer go to the Moon, so the next best images come from satellites ....
... such as the Deep Space Climate Observatory, which took this amazing photograph from a million miles in space ... the Dark Side of the Moon.
Which of course was also a Prog Rock album by English band Pink Floyd ........which brings me nicely to the landlady of the Doctor Browns public house in Middlesbrough, who has said that she wont hire any rock groups 'with female lead singers'. This after pub regulars had told her that they didn't "like girls singing songs meant for men."
Apparently this doesn't break the law according to the PC shock troops at The Equalities and Human Rights Commission. Many of us men have actually at least secretly thought much the same thoughts over the years .... that women do indeed make crap rock singers (and footballers and sports commentators, in this one mans opinion), but have been too cowed in the PC world of today to say it out loud.
However, having thought it through without my gonads ....
..... I would like to just point the Rock Dinosaurs and other such men of Middlesbrough and elsewhere, to Debbie Harry, Tina Turner, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick or even Courtney Love ....
.... to name but a few rock chicks who weren't too bad really, now that I have listed them.

Are you sure that the photo of both the moon and the Earth is real? because it looks really odd and seems to be missing the moon's shadow.
ReplyDeleteI really like female singers and missing from your list are Alanis Morissette and Dolores O'Riordan whom I listen to constantly. There are certainly some songs which are preferable with a male voice - or a female voice - but that's just a question of taste and what you're used to.
Statistics on the other hand would attest to there being far fewer female rock musicians/singers, but that doesn't make them any less genuine or talented.
Speaking of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, there's a female voice on one of those tracks which MAKES that song.
