Vox Populi USA

So the people have spoken ... Vox Populi applied to the democracy that leads the democratic world, and Donald Trump is the first 'billionaire' President of the United States of America, and leader of the free world.

The Oval Office Awaits Donald Trump ....

Now its only fair to say 'well done'. It is after all an unexpected achievement, and despite the negativity of the dismal presidential campaign that we have just witnessed, he has created some sort of popular white grass roots movement, that has swept him against all the odds into power.

Policing The World

A man with the hacker name of "Guccifer" was convicted in a Romania of hacking email accounts in 2014, and given four years imprisonment. Then the USA comes along in March 2016, and says that the man should be extradited to the USA to face further charges, because some of those hacked email accounts were Americans. He was duly extradited, and pleaded guilty in May 2016 to charges of aggravated identify theft and unauthorised access of a computer, and was then sentenced to a further 52 months in an American prison.

Extradition Is Rarely Voluntary ...

Now to me this is hardly just or fair .... he had already served two years for the same offence in a Romanian prison, which is hardly a honey hole by any description ... then the US decides that this is not punishment enough, and extradites him at about the time he might have expected to be released on probation, for what was after all was a white collar crime.

Mailgate Setback For Clinton

Mailgate or emailgate ... call it what you want, but once again a Clinton has failed to follow the rules, and the hunters are now out. Let's be honest, Hilary Clinton was until now a virtual shoe-in for the Democratic nomination (it is 'her' turn), and the turn of a woman ... but has she once again let the 'wimmin of the left' down?

 

One Of These Is Rated Higher For The US Presidency ......

 

Last time, her apparently passive and silent acceptance of Bill's trouser snake issues, without her walking out was a big disappointment to many, who would have preferred her to do a Valerie Trierweiler, and print all in a block buster book  ....

Still In The North

A while ago, I blogged on the two women 'journalists' with US passports who were tried for espionage in North Korea. Well despite the almost near collapse of US - Korean relations, the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said she hopes North Korea will free two jailed American reporters .....

Optimism in the extreme and coming after a signal from North Korea that it would release the two journalists if the US made a formal apology.... these are the games the North Koreans play so well. North Korea has allegedly delayed sending the two journalists to a prison labour camp and is keeping them in a guest house. in order to stretch the whole incident out as much as possible.

It would be sad if because of two irresponsible women who hold US passports, the US is made to eat humble pie when it should be standing strong.

Poor old Hilary Clinton

Its always a little sad to see a dream die, and although I suspect that Hilary Clinton is not a very nice person, she did have a dream, to become the first woman leader of the US.

This week that dream died and she is unlikely to even get the bitter prize of being the first woman 'Vice President', where prophetically The Simpsons Movie gave her that role to Itchy.

Whilst this won't be much consolation to Mrs Clinton, who would need a sniper to revive her chances (not an impossible liklihood given the polarisation Obama is going to cause in the US), but she has ensured that a woman will run for the presidency in the next 20 yrs, by breaking the final 'resistance' to the idea.

Compared to the idea of a black man being US president, which apart from in movies like 'deep impact' and the TV '24' series, was considered to be 50 yrs away, Mrs Clinton ended up seeming like part of the political 'establishment', not radical departure from a white male.

It won't make the hurt lessen but history will likely record her as the ice breaker for the first woman president.

Surely a little fame is better than none!

When Chickens Come Home To Roost

I have noticed over the last few weeks, that subjects I have discussed in earlier posts, have been in the news again.

First: Malthusian predictions - this caused a flurry of comments, mostly on the lines that the world would never run out of food, and if it did we could all become Vegans. Well this week the head of the head of the UN World Food Programme has stated that food prices world wide, 'are rising steeply because of food shortages'. These are caused by land degradation, and the use of "Bio Fuels" (another flaky green idea from the land of the loonies - you grow crops to make oil rather than for food - Duh!).

 

Remember When This Caused A Fuss?

The first food shortage riots have taken place in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal, Yemen, Mexico, Guinea and Morocco (Where 34 people were sentenced to prison on Wednesday for participating in riots over food prices).

All ties in nicely with my 2050 predictions!
