The British Home Secretary Amber Rudd has been forced to resign.
For those readers from abroad, I had better explain that underneath the Prime Minister, this is one of the great offices of state in the UK (along with Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Foreign Secretary).
So her departure is a big thing. However my interest is in one of the erstwhile reasons for her having to fall on her sword (I am aware of the 'Windrush' issue which is a separate administrative matter). Her second crime, was her department having targets for removing illegal immigrants.
WTF? What's wrong with targets? Run that past me again. It's now wrong to have deportation targets for people who have lied or committed criminal acts to enter this country. Surely we should have a target of 100 per cent removal?
What part of illegal immigration do David Lammy MP, and the rest of the Labour Party not understand?
However the spineless way in which Ms Rudd allowed removal targets to be seen as wrong, means that I have little sympathy for her. She hadn't got the balls to say 'too right we have targets, and if we haven't I'll bring them in'.
The fact that she capsized so easily, shows she wasn't made of stern enough character to hold the job. Another triumph for left wing political correctness.
Falling On Your Sword Has Been A Political Requirement Since Marcus Brutus Did It. |

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
