There was a news story run by a few media outlets that an Air India plane (Air India Flight 126) had to return to Chicago when most of the planes toilets were put out of order within an hour of the flight.

| Air India Flight 126 - Cancelled Blocked Toilets |
It was claimed that investigations showed that the passengers had dumped plastic bags, rags and even clothing down the planes toilets. Apparently this was not an unusual occurrence on Air India flights, but the article didn't explain why the passengers didn't just use the bins in the toilets to dispose of the items (as instructed on the notices).
On X, various Indians commented with one saying that "Only Air India has such frequent mishaps. Honestly what has happened is indefensible." ... which suggests that it wasn't an isolated incident. Another said "Can we honestly dump all the blame on Air India and the crew, when people can't follow basic travel etiquette?"
Could it be that many Indians still don't understand Western plumbing, and use squat toilets at home? I ask that because at at one office I worked at, the men's toilets became regularly fouled, after we hired a team of Indian contractors direct from India. As it appeared that at least one man in the team could not go to the toilet sat down, nor understand the flush mechanism, I won't describe it further.
Talking of travel etiquette ..... remember that elderly Chinese woman who threw coins into the planes engines for "good luck" in 2017 causing several hours delay while safety engineers examined the engines .... Well there was another idiot, but younger, in the form of Mr Lu Chao aged 28, who did the same thing in February 2019. He was detained by police for 10 days, charged with disturbing public order. Well in July 2019 Lu Chao admitted to the court, throwing the coins as he boarded an internal flight at Anqing Tianzhushan Airport in eastern China in February 2019.
But claimed that the airline should have warned passengers not to throw coins at planes. However he was made to pay compensation via a civil case, as Lucky Air lost of $21,000 after cancelling the flight and arranging alternative flights for the passengers. He was ordered to pay $17,600.
In March 2024 China Southern Airlines had to delay a flight for 4 hours after yet another passenger threw coins into the engine. It makes you wonder at the mindset of Chinese passengers .... how could anyone think that throwing metal into Airplane engines would be a good thing?
