Sky High Costs

When in September 1962, President Kennedy .....

One day man may Terra-form the Planet Mars ....

The Lady Of Mars

A shadow effect on the rocks of Mars appears (with a bit of imagination) to be that of a woman ..... or rather, a statue of a woman. Yes the www. world was in a ferment once again, as what appeared to be the likeness of a woman (if you squint a bit ... a lot), was 'spotted' by some nerds, on a video released by NASA from its 'Curiosity Rover' probe.

Pebbles In The Sky

Just a picture of some dusty old outcrops .... a few river pebbles stuck together in that sort of baked mud concrete you see anywhere there has been an old riverbed .....

But actually, this is Mars, and this proves that once there really was running surface water on Mars ..... and where there's water and sunlight, then on Earth there has been some sort of life (even the battery acidic streams near vents and volcanoes teem with bacterial life on Earth).

Maybe, just maybe, we are going to find the evidence that at least once ... we were not alone.

Life On Mars? I'm Betting Yes

The evidence continues to mount that there is still organic life on Mars.

Whilst not definitive, each piece of evidence points at the possibility but as a group its becomes even stronger.

Recently, I blogged on Methane on Mars coming from one of two sources:
  1. The first is geochemistry.
  2. The second is biology.
Well evidence suggests that biology is still a strong possibility, with the news that Meteors are not cause of the methane.

As the study co-author Mark Sephton says. "As Sherlock Holmes said, eliminate all other factors and the one that remains must be the truth. The list of possible sources of methane gas is getting smaller and excitingly, extraterrestrial life still remains an option".

How I hope to be alive when the first life on another planet is found, and yet another set of planets have been found this week.

Ticket To Ride (To Mars)

This Blog has followed space exploration with some interest, as it believes this planet has a very small window in which to establish outposts of humanity off planet before Earth civilisation collapses at the end of this century ...... so the news that Mars harbours vast amounts of water ice just under the surface is vastly encouraging.

Water-ice is seen to fade over time in this 12m crater within Arcadia Planitia (Nasa/JPL-Caltech/University of Arizona)

Now, if we can just crack the transportation propulsion method, then we have it sorted, cos a new road map has also been discovered.

Mars Farts Are Signs Of Life?

Yes, as I blogged merely a couple of weeks ago, the circumstantial evidence that there is life on Mars continues to mount up.

This week, NASA has admitted that they have evidence of Methane appearing over certain areas of Mars.

A Surprising Landmark

The news so far this year is sadly dominated by the war in Gaza, and in fact killings around the world. Well like my favourite character from "Kelly's Heroes", Oddball says, "Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?"

NASA's very own little WAL-E's

So I will. Mars exploration has been profoundly boosted by the surprise survival of NASA's very own little WAL-E's, Spirit and Opportunity, the Mars Rovers. They were predicted to last about three months in the extreme conditions on Mars, when they landed in January 2004.
