Cancel Cultures Logical End

With old dead white men (and Women) apparently fair game for cancellation ...

Slave Owners On Mount Rushmore
Two Of These Men May Be Cancelled ...

which is of course the removal of their images and presence from the public and historical sphere .....

Glasgow - City Of The Rat

Glasgow in Scotland has a rat problem ....

Rats Run Loose In Glasgow's Garnethill

.... and it has a rodent problem as well, with two (or more) council workers bitten by 'large rats' recently.

Fringe Festival 2018

Well I'm Back. It went well, and we saw 10 shows in all, but couldn't entirely agree as to the best show, so split revue scores on a couple.

Edinburgh Bar

Quick score reviews of the shows seen, listed in no particular order:

Vox Populi

Well the people have spoken, and once again plunged the UK into a political crisis. Thus proving again the old Churchill political adage that 'democracy is the worst of all governments except for all the others.' It also shows what divided country we are these days, Brexit, Devolution, Left and Right ... everywhere you look we are a nation divided.

Vox Populi or The Start Of A Revolution In Our System?
Vox Populi or The Start Of A Revolution In Our System?

Our system of first past the post relies on there being a clear winner, and so to be facing a second coalition or a minority government inside 2 years from the formation of the last one, is something of a shock to our way of getting governments.

BBC Impartiality Often Questioned

Why does the BBC seem to take a certain side in every argument? It is after all supposed to be primarily a news and entertainment channel, with an emphasis on learning, and always on impartiality. It's foundation charter was most specific about this, and yet for at least the last 30 years or so, it has taken an ever more 'Pro Immigration (including illegals), Multi-culturalist, Politically Correct', leftie stance on nearly every public policy argument.

BBC Impartiality Often Questioned ... But Not So Often By The Left.

This view often fails to chime with the views of the very public its supposed to be serving its content to, but the BBC seems to care not a jot for this.

Leftwing Loses Icons

Its by a strange coincidence, that this week the Left-wing lost another of its 'icons,' shortly after the unexpected death of Bob Crow the trades union leader, when today Tony Benn died.

Tony Benn And George Galloway - Bad Company
They Say You Are Measured By The Company You Keep

He was a politician who while feted over by many socialists and others on the Left, was equally despised and detested by many others, both in his own party (mainly for giving far left infiltrators free rein when he was on the party executive), and those not in his party, including me.

Thanks For The Legacy

There have as usual been some notable deaths in the last 12 months ..... some like Mrs Thatcher and Nelson Mandela were noteworthy enough to garner national and international comment and amongst those that created international comment were also:

Lou Reed
Lou Reed
  • Film Director Michael Winner
  • Singer Lou Reed, and
  • Actor Peter O’Toole

..... but others who died, may have had only local coverage or a small paragraph in the international press.

Best or Worst Politicians

The worst and the best US Presidents as calculated by various criteria is not a subject I have dwelled long upon

Trump - Latest Contender For Title?
Trump - Latest Contender For Title?

..... I guess that like most people, I would have generally thought along the lines of, Abraham Lincoln = Good, and George W Bush = Bad. Which just shows that I don't really know much about past US Presidents.

Sarkasm

There have been press reports that Sarkozy is the most 'hated' President in French history ... the suggestion is that its because he tried to break the cozy political French establishment which existed post war, in which the intellectual arguments were always on Leftwing terms ... the Right was only allowed to say that they could manage the socialist structures of France, better than the socialists could.

But then Sarkozy came along and said that the Right had valid arguments and philosophy's, and started to enact them .... cue 'hatred'. Irrational it may be, but heart felt it undoubtedly is. The film director Mathieu Kassowitz was reported as having said that if Sarkozy wasn't knocked out in the first round of the presidential elections, then it would show that France was a "neo-fascist collaborationist" country ... whatever that may mean.

Pres. Sarkozy - Hated By The French Leftwing

He may or may not win the elections, but I suspect that in the privacy of the election booths, he will have more support than the largely left wing (polls have indicated that between 80 and 95% of French journalists are on the left or far-left), French press suspect.  I seem to recall that Mrs Thatcher was (and still is) as hated by the same groups in the UK ... and look at the elections she won.

Remember The Junta?

I remember when the Falklands war broke out ....

Mrs Thatcher In The Falklands
Mrs Thatcher In The Falklands

.... there was such a anti-Thatcher feeling amongst the UK's Left Wing, that they *supported the Argentinians Military Junta's invasion.
