Universal Justice?

In the West, its taken as normal, that in principle we have one set of secular laws for all of us to live under ....

Peoples Of A Closed Book

Anyone deemed to be 'People of the Book' (Non Muslims, but who were following a monotheistic Abrahamic religion, that is older than Islam - But there are no hard and fast rules on this), and living in an Islamic nation, usually under Sharia Law, were given a number of rights ...

People Of The Book - May Not Share The Same God Or Beliefs
People Of The Book - May Not Share The Same God Or Beliefs ......

.... These rights were limited, casting them as dhimmi, a position not dissimilar to women and slaves in that they had restricted rights, and for the dhimmi this included such things as the right to freely practice their faith in private, and to receive state protection (sort of).

Biter Bitten

The Aceh region on the northern tip of Sumatra island in Indonesia, is run in a strict Islamic manner, and is the only region in Indonesia which enforces the full Sharia Islamic law.

Strict Sharia Groups Administer 'Justice'

This is due in the main, to the work of the Aceh Ulema Council (MPU), which advises the local government and legislature on drafting and implementing Sharia law in Aceh.

No Integration Even In Death

Solihull Council in the West Midlands have been considering whether to create a 5,000 plot cemetery for 'Muslims only', in the village of Catherine-de-Barnes.

More Muslim Cemetery's Needed?

The proposed cemetery will have 63 parking spaces, and comply fully with Sharia law, which states Muslims are buried in their own section of land. The village is not happy with the plans.

Lashings Of Fun In Saudi Arabia

A woman, identified only as 'Shema', went to court in Saudi Arabia last week. Her crime? Driving a car ...

Her punishment? 10 lashes on the back for breaking the country's ban on female drivers .... at least two other women are due to appear in court later this year on similar charges as part of the 'Women2drive' campaign in that country. The 'official' Saudi interpretation of Islamic law includes the guardianship system under which women need permission from a male relative to participate in public life.

Wanted -"Dead or Alive"
This sentence was overturned by the 'liberal' King of that paradise who in the same week had grandly announced that women could now vote in the meaningless local elections next year. Instead of being angry that the courts can still pass these sentences of torture on men and woman in Muslim lands, some spoilt air head princess (Princess Amira al-Taweel, wife of Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal) tweeted

"Thank God, the lashing of Shema is cancelled. Thanks to our beloved king, I am sure all Saudi women will be so happy".

Another Foot In Another Bishops Mouth

Once the Church of England (CoE) gets going, it can't stop sticking its collective foot in its mouth.

Rowan Williams Supported Sharia Law
Rowan Williams

Last year Rowan Williams suggested that elements of Sharia Law should be incorporated into UK law, and got slated into an apology. Now the Reverand Stephen Venner, the Church of England’s new Bishop to the Forces to the armed forces has had to apologise over comments he made in the Daily Telegraph about how the Taliban could be admired for their "conviction to their faith".

Saudi Rape Update

In the spirit of fairness, because I am quick enough to criticise the Saudis (the exporters of the Wahhabi brand of Islam that has blighted so many women's lives), so I should be fair when they do something decent for a change.

Today his Royal Highness King Abdullah has pardoned the woman who was gang raped. This pardon is not unfortunately, an attempt to change the ludicrous laws that condemn women to being considered as whores, for the slightest infringement of the honour codes (such as being raped), but it allows the woman to escape six months jail and the 200 lashes.

The King has undoubtedly succumbed to western pressure but its still the right thing to do and should be praised.

So on behalf of those who criticise your country I say well done.
