Piers Morgan, the journalist sacked .....
Sympathies Are Split Over These People |
.... for daring to suggest that the then Prince Harry and Meghan, were not being truthful about Meghan's treatment inside the Royal family, has not forgiven or forgotten them. But then again he has a tradition of keeping feuds going.
So perhaps its no surprise that he commented about Prince Harry's unkind remarks about the Royal family, particularly against his father, which have continued, even while his grandmother tries to get over the loss of her husband. But now he's latched on to the fact that Harry, who now lives in the USA with his wife, has now attacked America’s First Amendment as “bonkers.”
In a pod-cast interview Harry said (in relation to the spread of misinformation on the Internet and media aka 'Fake News') ... “I’ve got so much I want to say about the First Amendment as I sort of understand it, but it is bonkers. I don’t want to start going down the First Amendment route because that’s a huge subject and one which I don’t understand because I’ve only been here a short time. But, you can find a loophole in anything. You can capitalize or exploit what’s not said rather than uphold what is said.”
The first amendment, for those not fully conversant states 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.' ... a right that many Americans hold as sacred, and a declaration of their unalienable rights to freedom of speech and expression.
For a British Prince living in the US to use the term 'bonkers' when referring to it, is at best ignorant, and at worst insulting. In response Mr Morgan has described Prince Harry making a "spineless self-pitying twerp's attack on free speech, makes HIM look bonkers not the US Constitution." He goes on to say "Like so much of the absurd Meghan-inspired psycho-babble that spews out of his mouth, none of this makes any sense, and he clearly doesn't understand what he's saying either."
Harry should consider who has spoken out about free speech and the first amendment over the centuries:
- America's first president George Washington: 'If the freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.'
- Another Founding Father, Thomas Jefferson, America's third president: 'Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.'
And Finally our own great man (despite the BLM attempts to cancel him), and friend of the Queen, Sir Winston Churchill said:
"Everyone is in favour of free speech. Hardly a day passes without its being extolled, but some people's idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back, that is an outrage."
