In a bit of good news bad news a team in Vienna confirmed that there is a link between good
education levels and life expectancy ....

..... a finding confirmed by a recent study by the Yale School of Medicine and University of Alabama-Birmingham which found that the level of education, is the best predictor of who will live the longest.
They found that approximately 13% of participants in their study with only a high school degree or less education died under the age of 60, compared with only approximately 5% of those who were college graduates. Now we assume that the term good education levels doesn't necessarily always mean the attainment of formal educational qualifications, and that lifetime learning and attainment during work lifetimes also qualifies, although we all agree that formal education degrees would be a good indicator of a reasonable level of education.
However while that might be good news to my blog readers, who undoubtedly
are intelligent and well educated with enquiring minds, there is also a
bit of down side to this status.
This high intelligence often indicates a largely desk bound career and a
UCLA team in California has found that the brains of those who spend
most of their time seated, such as office workers, are smaller than
those who have more physically active occupations. The team found that
the medial temporal lobe (the part of the brain associated with fact based memory),
suffers from accelerated age-related atrophy in those who are the most
sedentary.

So really bad news for the vast numbers of couch potatoes who
