The Monty Python movie 'Life of Brian', a movie now often shown on afternoon TV on Sundays, was originally banned in 1979 in many parts of Britain for its 'blasphemous content'.
Hard to believe now, that the film was shunned by both the BBC and ITV, who declined to show it for fear of offending Christians in the UK, but when I think back, I recall that there was quite a stink about its portrayal of a 'nearly Messiah' called Brian in Judea during Roman times.
Of course all those who were upset, should have listened to Brian's mum .....
Anyway, I would probably never have recalled that controversy, except for the fact that surprisingly, the city of Truro in Cornwall, has only now, in 2015, rescinded the ban on it, 35 years after the event.
I can't help thinking that no one is going to go to the cinema to see it now ..... but in Cornwall, you never know.

Although, perhaps my favourite character is the ex-leper who felt hard done-by after a miraculous cure by some "bloody do-gooder" :
Ex-Leper: Half a dinare for me bloody life story?
Brian: There's no pleasing some people.
Ex-Leper: That's just what Jesus said, sir. hops off after another mark...
Genius.
Well the leper (now ex) was probably exhibiting his sores as a way of begging (see the Beggars Can Be Choosers post) .... the "bloody do-gooder" had removed his means of income, and with no welfare state invented yet, that was a "bloody serious" concern.
