The Crying Game

In the old days Aussies were tough larrikin's from the outback ...

Sure they were a bit rough round the edges, but they were always up for a blue or a coldie .... like Barry McKenzie.

Not today it seems .... After a minor ball tampering 'scandal', in which some Aussie cricketers were forced to resign from the national team, followed reluctantly by their national coach.

Now I say minor, because I am led to believe that 'ball-tampering' (the roughing up one side of the ball to alter its aerodynamic properties which can result 'reverse swing', where the ball moves through the air at high speed unexpectedly towards the batsman), has gone on since cricket was invented.

So far, so yawn (it was after all a game between Australia and South Africa), but then came the interesting surprise as one after the other, Steve Smith, David Warner, Cameron Bancroft, and Darren Lehmann the Australia coach resigned .... in the old days they would have toughed it out.

However nothing prepared the English press and media for the unedifying spectacle of these Aussie hard men crying on TV screens .... like big girls blouses.

Strewth, I preferred it in the old days, when an Australian man's cheeks were always as dry as a Pommy's towel, unless his favourite kelpie was run over or died.
