As I am luckily back in the pink so to speak, I have resumed my annual August pilgrimage to the Edinburgh Fringe festival. Big Kenny and I are neither of us getting any younger, so these meet ups in Edinburgh may not go on too much longer, so we need to get them in while health persists.
Consequently I am away this week. However as I know there are a dozen or so regulars to this blog who read the posts every Friday, and I don't want to let them down, I am posting a few 'shorts' in two posts.
Fishermans Tails
An angler at Boscombe pier in Dorset UK, caught a 6 inch Dover Sole and jokingly pretended to kiss the tiddler in front of his mates. However the live fish suddenly darted out of his hand and down his throat .... his friends called an ambulance, which arrived almost immediately, but he had already gone into cardiac arrest.
It took them six attempts to get the fish out of his airways because of the fishes barbs and gills, which were digging in when the fish was pulled backwards. He was revived in the ambulance, and remarkably was sent home after checks, none the worse for wear, but with a great story for the bar.
Lucky Man
Duncan Campbell of Heanor in Derby, England, attempted a 'Death by Cop' suicide, by waving an air pistol at police. He was shot, but survived, only to get a suspended sentence for his gun charges.
Plain Dopey
A Colombian drug trafficker was arrested in Spain, after he handed £175,000 worth of cocaine to the wrong person. He first double parked his car at Arroyomolinos, near Madrid, and then handed the sports bag with the cocaine to a passing stranger, who handed it to the police. They arrested the dealer who was still near his car when they turned up.
Model Actor
A German star of the WWII film, Inglorious Basterds, has found out that a Chinese firm have modelled a Nazi action figure on him. This without his permission, but to add to this bad luck .... they had paid no fee on the sales.
Sad End
An elderly couple died within minutes of each other in Welsh St Donats, South Wales, in a freak set of circumstances. Its believed that the man aged 86 had tripped while weeding the garden and fractured five ribs. His wife of 57 years, aged 87, went to aid him and tripped herself and banged her head. They were both apparently unable to get up, and any calls for help were unheard. It was one of the hottest days of the year with temperatures almost 30c (86F) and they both eventually passed out before passing away.
No Luck In Love
A recent Poll has found that nearly half of all single Brits (43 per cent), have given up any hope of finding a partner. What that says about our society I will leave to you to decide. But that's an awful lot of us (and it includes me), who have just given up .... perhaps there are some socially useful aspects to arranged marriages?
Desperate For Love
One who hadn't given up hoping for love yet was a 54 year old UK woman from Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancs, who went on line looking for love, and met her 'boyfriend' there. Eric Lopez, said he was an ex-American army major, who needed money to be released from a defence contract in Dubai. So she flew to Dubai and met a man dressed in Arab clothing who said he was a friend of Major Lopez, and she handed over a five figure sum. She then sent another £150,000 of her own money by money transfer when the five figure sum proved not to be enough.
Not content with milking her of all her own money, the Internet scammers knew that they had a real idiot on their hands, and so asked for more. She then stole a further £526,473 from her employers of over 20 years, to hand over as well. She did all this despite being warned by the police at one stage that its likely to be a scam. She ended up in massive personal debt, and being jailed for 32 months, and the scammers no doubt moved on to another gullible woman. Western women who are desperate for love will do and believe almost anything to keep the dream alive ...... sad that women like this are so desperate that their brains freeze. But you can't cure love or stupidity.

A one-eyed, one-handed, one legged drunk in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, stole a policeman's gun and shot at his police car .....
...... He must have had one too many .... I'm not here all week!

Western women caught in these love scams must number in the thousands, with many refusing to report their folly through embarrassment and shame.

DeleteThere are men caught in these scams. There was a english bloke in the news a week ago who gave away all his savings to a woman from eastern europe.
DeleteHe had never met her. The paper said it was likely not even a woman.
Your right of course .... men are caught in honey traps probably more often than women, but its less publicised. Thanks for the comment.
