There are a number of names for the practise, but its sometimes called 'Cheeking' as the prisoner smuggles
a small package between his (or her) butt cheeks .... Obviously there
are other methods of smuggling goods and when inside the anus its in a 'prison
wallet' .... anyway this somewhat gross discussion aside, the authorities try to keep a lid on it, with raids and cell / prisoner / visitor searches.
And it was these attempts that created this story. Now I have no idea what smuggling items up your nose is called in prison slang ... perhaps a nosebag?. However 18 years ago an Australian prison inmate decided that sticking a wrap of cannabis up his nose, was the best way to smuggle it around the prison without the risk of it getting found. Unfortunately when he came to retrieve his recreational drug, he couldn't find it and assumed that he had pushed it up too far, and had swallowed it.
He remained convinced that this was the drugs fate, even though he started suffering from almost constant headaches, nasal obstructions, and sinus infections. But after suffering these conditions for nearly two decades, he went to the doctors for a full investigation, and after a CT Scan identified a small package up his nose, the cannabis wrap was finally removed from his nostril.
