I had call recently to recall the fate of a pub that I used to drink in ....
The Albert Inn - On Walmer Street, Rusholme, Manchester. |
.... in response to a comment from another former punter.
So I checked the fate of all the other pubs that were in that area of Manchester, and which I had also drunk in, in my 20's and early 30's ... this is ignoring all the Manchester pubs of my teens, which were mainly in the Chorlton, Withington and Didsbury areas of South Manchester, or in the town centre. Later on I also used a couple of pubs in the Longsight area.

I was a student in Manchester in the 1990's and had digs near that Rusholme area. Most of those pubs on the main road were still open then. They weren't student pubs, except maybe the Clarence, which seemed a bit more friendly, so I didn't drink in them, but it's sad that they are all gone.
ReplyDeleteHi Steve K, I should imagine that this has happened in a lot of inner cities and towns across England. Certain immigrants don't frequent pubs but moved into low cost housing. Much student accommodation has also probably been lost. Thanks for the comment.
