Sometimes fate just takes a hand. Police in Bochum Germany spotted a man playing a one armed bandit in a arcade, and realised that he was wanted with a warrant out for his arrest, because of €710 in unpaid fines. He faced a 71 day prison term if he failed to pay up, so they moved in to handcuff him.

But as they detained him, the fruit machine paid out the jackpot of €1,000 so the man paid his outstanding fine in full on the spot and was released.
Don't Waste My time With Stupid Questions
Police in Karlsruhe Germany said that they had more important things to worry about that why someone was regularly leaving a pound of mincemeat on the railways track at Berghusen. fair enough I would say.
Guerilla Tactics
In October 2020, police in Fargo (Yes of the movie fame), North Dakota were called to an apartment block at 12:30am where reports of gun shots had been made. When they entered they were confronted by a Gorilla with a machete ... of course it was soon apparent that it was a male in an ape costume, and that the reported "shots" were in fact fireworks being thrown by the man in the costume.
Mr Jordan Pickus claimed to have a bomb, and threatened to blow up the block. It took several hours of discussions and the building being evacuated before he surrendered peacefully.
He was arrested and taken initially to hospital for mental evaluations before later being charged with terrorising offences.
Fagin's Brother
Anthony Connor is a natural born thief .... what is sometimes described as a 'career criminal' or possibly an incorrigible repeat offender. He was arrested while trying to steal a car in the Bolton area of Greater Manchester and while in the back of the police car he spotted fumbling about.
The arresting officer stopped and found that Mr Connor had picked his pocket while being arrested, and now had the police officer wallet. When asked what he thought he was doing Connor replied "I am sorry - I didn't know it was your wallet" .... its not reported what the officer replied.
Good Excuse
Mr Yuki Endo was arrested in Tokyo in 2019 after breaking into the flat of a woman, and stealing her underwear. When police searched his residence they found more female knickers totalling 78, which he had taken on other burglaries. When questioned he admitted the crimes but in mitigation said "I only stole panties. I have no interest in bras." ... oh, that's OK then!
Speedy End
In Essex, England, a trial test of using police speed cameras to aid dog wardens catch footpath fouling by dog owners had to stopped, because it accidentally uncovered too many cars speeding. Yes really, the keen dog wardens using the £10,000 TruCams uncovered 1,300 speeding drivers in less than a year. This so overloaded the local magistrates court system that the trial was halted indefinitely in 2019, as it threatened to outstrip court availability.
Reeling Them In
An enterprising off duty police officer asked a cinema to stop a movie halfway through so that he could arrest three car thieves whom he had recognised as being in the theatre ... he duly arrested the teenagers at the Showcase cinema in Birstall, Leeds England on suspicion of the theft of three vehicles worth £200,000 ($240,000) .... the film resumed after the three had been taken into custody.
