 ... so when a man (later identified as Claude Vincent Griffin Jr), robbed a phone shop by wearing a cardboard box on his head, it ws inevitable that the CCTV footage would hit the Internet. He actually got away with 19 iPhones and $8,000 in cash .... so he will have been feeling pretty goddam smug.

However, as the dumb ass had lifted the box to look at the phones he was stealing, his photographed face enabled other plaza shoppers and shopkeepers, to spot him drinking outside a nearby liquor store with his friends .... the police were notified and promptly arrested him.

But he was not alone in this cunning cardboard trick (whatever happened to woolly hats with eye holes cut out?). In 2024, another Florida man, a petty crook(named Alan Gaudreau, started committing a series of crimes in January 2024. He had cut all the Internet cables to an entire shopping plaza just hours before he committed a string of burglaries.

He had pulled a piece of cardboard from a garbage can, and used it to conceal his identity while he broke into multiple businesses in Port Orange. In one store he ripped three security cameras off the wall and took them, along with a JBL speaker. But rather strangely, a bag containing all the stolen items was later found in a dumpster outside the back of the business he had just robbed. 

Further crimes occurred on the 6th of February and 25th of March, all following a similar pattern, but detectives spotted him and in April he was finally arrested. He then confessed to taking a box out of the dumpster and using it to conceal himself and break into the Port Orange business. He also admitted to burglarising two laundromats and the Stop N' Go convenience store.

..... Some criminals are just too damn stupid to even be crooks.
