..... on BBC recently, shortly after her sad death.
She was in the "Legends" slot, and like a true legend, she actually attracted a bigger crowd (180,000 plus) than the two headline slots on the previous Friday and Saturday.
The Legends slot often attracts fantastic talents, that surpasses the head line bands/performers, but it made me think. Who are true legends in music?
Obviously Dolly was, and I guess if they were alive, David Bowie and Johnny Cash would be, and perhaps Bob Marley, but alive, maybe only Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, and Debbie Harry of Blondie are. But that's the thing about legends isn't it .... they are very subjective, and one persons legend, is not another persons.
You dear reader, will of course have your own ideas of who is, or isn't, a music legend, both alive or passed, and of course which genres of music. For instance you might think, Frank Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald, Mario Lanza or Maria Callas, Willie Nelson or the Carter Family were legends .... the list is endless, and of course changes as you move country or outside the English speaking world e.g. in France you might say Johnny Hallyday or Édith Piaf.
You pays your money and makes your choices.
