Killer Apes

It seems that not only do we want young men to fight wars, risking injury or death on behalf of politicians, but we want them to be bright as well .....

Scholar Soldiers?
Scholar Soldiers?

…… a report just issued has said that we must have ‘clever soldiers’.

UK Self Defence Force

The world must be a safer place than ever before, and the UK safer than at any time since Wellington was supreme commander. That's the only conclusion one can draw from the fact that every UK 'defence review' (usually at the behest of the 'Chancellor of the Exchequer') in the last 60 years has concluded that the British Armed forces would somehow be better for being pruned, and would always result in a "forward-looking, modern fighting machine", or words to that affect.

The Army has been cut decade after decade.

We now have been left with a 'self defence force' rather than an army .... as its been cut to its smallest size since the Napoleonic wars, with most analysts considering that at least 100,000 men is the minimum size for a national army.

The shame is great, and to think it was a Conservative government that dealt the British Army the mortal  blow that Napoleon, the Kaiser, Hitler and Stalin couldn't.

An Army Of Bureaucrats

A quick update. Do you recall all those 'contractor cuts' and staff cuts that were supposed to be occurring in the bloated Dept Work and Pensions? Well the contractor numbers are actually increasing not decreasing in some parts .... I personally know of one more contractor who has just been taken on, on a 6 months contract .... and the existing contractor in that dept that I wrote about? Well he's still there, and heading for his second year anniversary ... he's covering several roles that they can't find any permanent staff to perform.

The latent ability of the UK civil service to resist any cuts is amazing.

As far as I am aware, the only time their numbers were capped or cut in post war Britain was under Maggie T ... Blair and Brown added 100,000 plus more to the payroll to cover their various schemes (while cutting troop levels in the army by 25,000), and it appears that Cameron and Clegg are in much the same mould .... we have defence cuts (and yet more cuts on top of cuts) that mean we have less soldiers and no working aircraft carriers, while fighting four wars (Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and the Balkans [Bosnia, Kosovo]), and continuing to posture at the big table as though we can actually exercise independent power.

The UK Has Four Civil Servants For Every Soldier
If wars were won by bureaucracy and bureaucrats then the UK would still be a super power .... but they are not and we ain't.

"Fighting Them on the Creches"

The British Army is now a 'single parent' club ..... "Oh, sorry I was late for the war Sergeant, I was child minding".

That's the only conclusion we can draw from the shameful decision by an employment tribunal to award a West Indian woman £17,000 for 'racial and sex discrimination' when they sacked her for not turning up for parades etc. Her reason for not following basic army discipline requirements was that she had to look after her child, conceived after joining the army, so her personal responsibility, a word that hardly has meaning these days.

Creche Club Army

She had reportedly been trying to get £1,000,000 in 'compensation', so I hope the £17,000 makes her happy, and she has apparently neither gone home (she's not a British citizen .... but hey we have no immigrating rules, so she can stay here, no problem), nor taken up any employment. I hope the Department of Work and Pensions make a note of the award, and suspend any income related benefits that Ms DeBique is claiming.

This is the inevitable consequence of PC policies being allowed to reach their logical conclusion. Even in an employment area, where discipline is the only way you can operate, women can now simply bypass it for 'biological ' reasons.

This must increase pressure on male soldiers to do even more tours of active combat duty, in order to cover maternity and child rearing needs of single parents ... and simply means more blood on the hands of those who make these politically correct decisions ..... but since when has this ever bothered them?
