Perfidious Pakistan

The Pakistani military and intelligence establishments (Inter Services Intelligence - ISI), are believed by many in the West (and Afghanistan), to have nurtured and helped the Afghani Taliban for the last 30 years ....

Pakistan And The Taliban - Marching Side By Side?
Pakistan And The Taliban - Marching Side By Side?

... they have always denied this, but their denials were easy to make and hard for the Western powers to disprove, without exposing intelligence assets to serious risk. Something that they can't afford.

Weird Anniversary

In a damning milestone in a nations history .... Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has completed its full five-year term in office - the first time a civilian government has managed this feat in Pakistan's 66-year history ... Of course the army are actually a government inside a government and so technically the civilian government has no power over vast tracts of the economy, foreign policy and law and order. In particular, the I.S.I determines the policy towards India and Afghanistan - both of which are troubled by the ongoing support towards the Taliban in Kashmir and Afghanistan ... a policy which breeds terrorism at home.

An attempt in 2008 by the government to place the maverick ISI intelligence service under civilian control was rejected by the military and that set the scene for the weak regime ever afterwards. Strangely, they now have an interim government until the elections expected in May, so plenty of time for an upset, but its still thought that they may well manage to do the first ever civilian to civilian regime change in its history as well ..... although once again, judicial activism threatens to destabilise matters.

Credit to the politicians for actually getting this far, but their inability to finally get a grip on the military means that that there is no guarantee that the country will do nothing but slowly slide into chaos .... the country is actually breaking up, but in a glacial manner, with no one able to take decisive action on the several crisis ... the Baluchistan separatist insurgency is not dampening down, the economy (where virtually no one pays taxes - leaving the country reliant on US 'aid'), and the energy situation (power Blackouts are a daily occurrence), have generally worsened. All of this is exacerbated by a population growth that is out of control.

Democracy In Pakistan - Only Skin Deep

The military could tackle the internal militancy, stop the running sore that's Afghanistan and Kashmir, and improve relations with India and other neighbours at a stroke, but refuses to do so .... this means that the other issues can't be addressed either. The Asian Development Bank has warned that Pakistan faces a severe balance of payments crisis and has to borrow at least US $9bn (£6bn) from the IMF before the year is out ... it may not get it and the country's foreign exchange reserves have fallen to cover only two months of imports.

All the mainstream parties are fiddling while Rome burn .... many of them actively support the terror groups who destroy the country in an orgy of sectarian ethnic cleansing.

Hell Has Another Resident ..... Osama Bin Laden Dead

This morning came the news that Osama Bin Laden, leader and mentor of the Al Qaeda terrorist ideology was killed by US Special forces yesterday .....

Osama Bin Laden Lived Caves

No doubt Islamists the world over will be mourning 'another martyr', and in Mosques 'sermons' will praise him, which just shows how sick Islamists are .... he was a mass murderer who preached an ideology that stated that 'civilians, including women and children, are legitimate targets of Jihad'.

Pakistan Supports Taliban To Kill British Troops

As this blog has discussed before, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is actually working to undermine the democratic Pakistani regime in its fight with the Taliban, by secretly funding and supporting the Afghanistan version of that Islamist organisation, in its attacks on Western soldiers. This support for the Taliban started under General Zia Ul Haq (the General who Islamicized the Pakistanis constitution to its eternal harm), in the 1980's and has been going on ever since.

It's supporting attacks on the US and UK (its nominal allies), in the paranoiac belief that this counters some imagined Indian influence in Afghanistan (they are not actually able to articulate circumstances in which Hindu India has any sway over the Islamic madmen of the Taliban, but hey why take that risk, and anyway killing 'infidel' soldiers via the proxies of the Taliban is OK, because the West is too stupid to do anything about this).

This ISI inspired paranoia over India's 'influence' is so prevalent in Pakistani military and 'Intelligence' circles, that they will not release the required number of troops to actually defeat the Taliban inside Pakistan .... which just further serves the aims of the Islamist's inside and outside Pakistan.

Once again this ISI support has been publicised, but nothing will be done to stop Pakistan (and our so called Middle Eastern allies), from funding the Taliban, in its attacks on Western troops.

Can anyone explain why we support a regime that actively murders our soldiers, or what we ever hope to achieve in Afghanistan, when Muslim states are actively ensuring that we will fail, and that Afghanistan will immediately revert back to a failed despotic state after we leave?

Pakistans Slow Collapse

Last year a CIA analyst predicted that Pakistan would fall to the Taliban within a few years (2015).

The Pakistan Taliban - Tehreek-e-taliban

All the evidence is that Pakistan is very slowly losing the war with the militants, and that the army is being beaten into sitting in bunkers outside cities, but with little control in the countryside.
