Super Trouper

Cinema chain Vue quizzed cinema goers in the UK, to find which was the most popular film Superhero .....

Judge Dredd - 2000 AD Comic
Judge Dredd - 2000 AD Comic

Now surprisingly it was not any character from The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, nor Tarzan or even V. I might even have expected that Judge Dredd who was created for 2000 AD the British comic, be selected, even though Mega City is set in North America.

But no, they didn't even get a mention from the British cinema audiences being quizzed ..... so without further ado, here's the list:
  1. Batman.
The Dark Knight Is Britain's Favourite
The Dark Knight Is Britain's Favourite

    2. Superman.
    3. Spider-man.
    4. Wonder Woman (really?).
    5. Incredible Hulk.
    6. Iron Man.
    7. Wolverine.
    8. Thor.
    9. Flash Gordon.
    10. Captain America.
    11. Deadpool (I'm not really familiar with this one).
    12. Guardians of the galaxy (surely its cheating naming a group?).
    13. Robin (now your having a laugh).
    14. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (grown ups voted for them?).
    15. The Flash.
    16. Batwoman.
    17. Black Panther.
    18. Bat Girl (isn't this 16 before she grew up?).
    19. Hellboy.
    20. Ghost Rider.

The poll also found that the Batman movies, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and 1989's Batman were the best Super hero films so far.  Oh and Superman would be the winner in a battle between Batman and Superman (due to his super strength). While Christopher Reeves was considered the best Superman.

The Joker ... Popular Villain
The Joker ... Popular Villain.

However, at least 12 per cent of those questioned in the poll preferred Super Villains to Super Heroes, and voted for The Joker, Penguin and Lex Luthor as the top three.

  1. What's wrong with Wonder Woman? As you don't seem to be familiar with Deadpool you must not have seen Gal Gadot's portrayal of the feisty Amazonian. I think I spied Young Sheldon's sister in the role of young Diana too...

    1. Ah no, just checked and it's not the same girl who plays young Diana.

    2. Well I'm glad you sorted that out as I wouldn't have bothered. I grew up on American DC comics (Marvel never really made it in my world), Wonder Woman and her invisible plane and lasso (while she was visible), seemed totally ridiculous to my discerning 10 year old eye.

Thanks for the info and comment Vroomfondel.

    3. I would have found an invisible plane ridiculous had I'd seen one. ;-)

Seriously though, there wasn't one. She did share the film with a young James T Kirk though (no need to check that, I know Jim Kirk when I see him).

    4. Wonder Woman did have an invisible plane in the comics ....... never seen the film, so whatever liberties they took I can't comment on.

  2. DC comics once had a batman comic where heroes from other countries met batman for some reason. The British Knight (a man in armour with a Lance on a motorbike ), was the UK's offering.

    1. Not that I doubted you (as this rang a bell), but I looked it up, and Percival Sheldrake debuted as 'the Knight' in Batman #62 (December 1950), with his son Cyril Sheldrake taking over in a late 90's reboot. Thanks for the memory jog and the comment.
