In a depressing sign of the times, two teenage girls were stabbed in playing fields near the Rivermead Leisure centre in Reading, UK in November 2017 ....
..... In a mass group fight, over a boy who was dating two girls from the different rival schools.
The girls from the two schools had apparently arranged the showdown. The incident was filmed by 'friends', and these films show the groups punching each other, before one pulls out a knife and stabs another.
When they were stopped, a 13 year old had a serious stomach injury, while a 14 year old had shoulder and leg wounds. A 15 year old girl was arrested. There's nothing more I can add to this, except that the idea of this happening when I was that age, was inconceivable ...... its really not a better teenage world.
Mind you, they are hardly getting good guidance from the adults ..... fights broke out at the gates of Wellington Academy school in Ludgershall, Wilts UK ...
..... after some parents actively encouraged their kids to attack other children as a quick way of settling the children's disputes. This school is actually the first Academy school in Wiltshire, and one of the county’s highest performing schools. It is sponsored by Wellington College - an independent school in Berkshire.
So you would expect parents of a similar calibre, but the headmistress had to send out warning letters to the parents involved, which stated that in two incidents, parents were seen and heard telling children to "verbally and/or physically attack or hurt their peers or engage in active bullying".
The letter added that parents had verbally abused members of the school staff. .... children were warned that they risked losing their places at the school if they participated in any violence.
What are we coming to?

It looks like equality of the sexes has its bad side too.

DeleteAre knives predominantly a black thing? I note that the girl with the stab wound in her leg is black, so I am assuming, rightly or wrongly, that these were largely black girls in the fight?
