Well we have all reached the end of what can only be described as a tumultuous year ....
Dominated by the Corona-virus and the fall out from that.
At the time of writing this post (earlier in the year), it was not clear if social distancing, face masks, and no vaccine were going to be a feature of the entire year, or whether by the late autumn, the virus impact would have subsided ... Sadly it now appears that despite vaccines being approved, it will still be impacting us well into 2021, BUT with the hope that the end truly is in sight in the UK, even with the new variant.
But in the UK, we have also had other concerns, such as the ticking time bomb of Brexit, which had been on the slow burner for most of the past year so and which has lingered like a bad smell right up until last week ... I will address that subject further in a later post. Finally, the row over Telecom firm Huawei, and whether its a Chinese spy organisation or not, will also have impacts well in to next year as the Chinese do hold grudges. Huawei threatened to "move Britain into the digital slow lane, push up bills and deepen the digital divide."
An interesting foot note to this row, is that its odd how, whenever a commercial decision is made against Huawei (or certain other Chinese firms), around the world, its always the Chinese Ambassador who threatens 'public and painful' retaliation and retribution against the country that does it .... why?
Hardly friendly or conciliatory responses, and very suggestive that there may indeed be an unhealthy connection between the allegedly private companies, the legal obligation under the National Intelligence Law for Chinese citizens to support national intelligence work, and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) .... The US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan and Great Britain are all waiting to see who, if not all of them, will get the Chinese burn next year.
And of course in the US, the results of the Presidential elections with Ol' Joe Biden in charge, will also have repercussions across the globe, not least on how many of these international issues will play out next year .... So all in all, a tumultuous year indeed.

Hopefully a much better 2021 is to come, after the very ill fated 2020 we have just endured.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
