Liberal Values Tested By Reality

In recent years several liberal, Democratic Party run areas in the north of the USA have 'bravely' declared themselves as asylum sanctuary zones ....

Asylum Sanctuary Zones

 .... meaning the police and authorities don't question the immigration status of anyone in the city or even state and that have policies to aid undocumented immigrants.

The did so, knowing full well that as 95 per cent of all asylum seekers arrived in the southern border regions, such as Texas, Arizona and Florida (which are largely Republican controlled) ... so they could expect that few of the asylum seekers would make it to them. Therefore these northern cities could mostly keep a warm and fuzzy feeling, but bearing little or none of the social or economic cost for the millions of non English speaking and often unemployable immigrants arriving every year ... a cost which has hit a record high this year.

However ever since Texas, Arizona and Florida - all started transporting migrants to Democratic-led areas, focusing on those same self styled self-proclaimed "sanctuary" cities i.e. those that limit their co-operation with federal immigration authorities over peoples status, the financial and social costs squeeze has started to impact them as well as the border states.

So bad has it become in the southern border area, that even the Democratic-run city of El Paso, Texas, has been offering migrants free rides to New York City and Chicago as a means of alleviating the strain on city resources. El Paso alone has transported more than double the number of migrants - nearly 9,000 - to the two northern cities than have been sent by the Texas governor.

So in less than one month, not one year, just one month since September, when the three states started shipping asylum seekers north in earnest (the numbers started to rise in New York from April 2022), an average of five to six buses have been arriving in New York (a democratic 'sanctuary' city), and this comparatively small number of 17,000 illegals has broken the city. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has declared a state of emergency to address a "crisis situation" over an influx of the migrants, with one in five people in the city shelter system currently an asylum seeker.

This is estimated to be costing New York $1bn (£900m) this fiscal year alone ... funnily, now that 'sanctuary city status' actually means something, the residents are not happy at the real cost of their liberal consciences .... "New Yorkers are angry," said Mayor Adams. "I am angry too. We have not asked for this. There was never any agreement to take on the job of supporting thousands of asylum seekers." ... what a hypocrite! The border states 'have not asked for this' either, nor was there "any agreement" made with them "to take on the job of supporting thousands of asylum seekers."

So now they know what residents of Texas, Arizona and Florida have felt for several decades and the costs that they have had to bare, they have suddenly found out the true pain of illegal immigration ... and they don't like it. Laughably Mayor Adams claims that the city's social services are "being exploited by others for political gain" ... really!

Its funny how easy it is to have soft values until the reality is rubbed hard in your face. Texas Governor Greg Abbott's spokeswoman dismissed the declaration by the New York mayor: "The true emergency is on our nation's southern border where small Texas border towns are overrun and overwhelmed by hundreds of migrants every single day as the Biden administration dumps them in their communities."

While Florida, took credit for sending two planes carrying migrants to the wealthy enclave of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts .... the asylum seekers were promptly removed to a military base nearby. "All those people in DC and New York were beating their chest when Trump was president, saying how they were so proud to be sanctuary jurisdictions," Governor DeSantis said. "The minute even a small fraction of what those border towns deal with every day is brought to their front door, they all of a sudden go berserk."

Its always amazes me, how easy it is for some people to hold liberal values over such matters as Illegal Immigrants, or Gypsies/Travellers, until they are on their own doorstep. Just like all those white BLM supporters, who cried for police protection in the 'police free zone' in Seattle, Washington, after the threat of rape or robbery grew within hours, and especially after shootings in or near the zone on June 20, 21, and 23 .... 

Calls To De-fund The Police Soon Changed

.... SPD Chief Carmen Best said: "Rapes, robberies and all sorts of violent acts have been occurring in the area and we have not been able to get to it." Carmen Best later resigned as the chief of police, after the Seattle City Council voted to downsize the department by up to 100 out of its 1,400 officers.
