Art Beer And Real Beer - What Difference? |
There was another of the many tales of cleaning ladies (or gentlemen if such was the case), not noting the difference between art and rubbish.
This time the incident was in the Netherlands in October 2024. The artwork in question was by French artist Alexandre Lavet and consisted of two hand painted acrylic beer cans (using designs similar to real brands, for authenticity), placed on the floor the museum’s lift, entitled "All The Good Times We Spent Together."So the stand in lift technician enters the lift, sees two empty crumpled beer cans and puts them in the nearest trash bag ..... what exactly did the bright spark in the museum who decided to place them in the lift expect? They are lucky that no visitor just stamped on them and used the museum bins to get rid of them .... I would have done!
Apparently, the theme of their collection is "food and consumption." According to the the museum’s director “Our art encourages visitors to see everyday objects in a new light. By displaying artworks in unexpected places, we amplify this experience and keep visitors on their toes.”
Question? Why didn't the museum buy a pack of cheap lager, drink two at lunch and crumple the two empty cans, and then throw them on the ground? Its beyond dumb, the crap that paces for art these days.
Both cans were later found intact, cleaned and replaced at the museum's entrance .... Phew eh?? The museum claimed it just proved how well the acrylic cans had been painted, that they were so real a lift technician thought that they were real trash ... Hmm, that's not what I got from this story.
