Eight Mugshots On The Route To Murder |
Thirty six year old Melvin Williams is one such man. A typical product of the 'hood,' but that's no excuse for this evil little mans actions.
On June the 27th, 2022, he went in to a Subway located at a gas station on Northside Drive, South West Atlanta, Georgia to get a sandwich, but apparently thought that he had been given too much mayonnaise on the sandwich when it was presented to him.
He complained loudly about this to the store assistants, but when this didn't get the result or response that he wanted, he walked out of the store, and then pulled out a gun and started shooting in to the store, hitting two Subway employees. The shooting leaving 26-year-old Brittany Macon dead, and 24-year-old Jada Statum (her sister), having to be rushed to surgery in a critical condition (she had emergency surgery, and was reported as stable). Tragically the two sisters had just started working at the store three weeks before the shooting.
During the shooting, the assistant manager pulled out a gun and returned fire, but missed Mr Williams, while the murdered woman's 5-year-old nephew, and injured employee's son was inside the store when the shooting started. His mother shoved her five-year-old underneath the counter, before she was shot twice. Williams then fled, but was quickly identified and arrested. He was denied bail/bond on charges of murder, aggravated assault and gun related charges.
Willie Glenn, the store owner said "Believe it or not, it was about too much mayonnaise on his sandwich ...... I don't know what the world is coming to especially with our youth. They seem to be so hot headed. Everybody wants to carry a gun. Everybody wants to scare somebody with a gun. It's scary out here."
Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Charles Hampton Jr. said "It was very senseless. Yes, too much mayo on a sandwich but an individual with a gun who thought that was the course of action to resolve about a sandwich."
Of course it soon turned out that Williams had a long string of criminal activities in his past, having been booked in to Fulton County Jail on at least eight different occasions (It may well have been more times, starting at juvenile courts). In fact he was out on bail (bond) for charges of child cruelty and aggravated assault at the time of the shooting, and of course as a convicted felon he was actually prohibited from possessing a gun. Not that this almost useless law made any difference, because guns are so easy to obtain and as hinted at by Mr Glenn, are a badge of manhood in that community.
Mr Glenn said that Williams had previously been served at the store, and not had any issues with the employees until now. 'Because of what happened tonight, my partners and I are re-evaluating whether or not we're going to continue to do this, in this neighbourhood anyway's,' adding that it's not a risk worth taking.
This is just another senseless gun related crime, that has ruined one families lives forever, possibly cost a number of people their jobs, maybe removed a resource from the community, and the only positive is that its likely put a vicious little thug in to a prison for the rest of his life .... just another hood tragedy.
