Lassie Go Home

Tales of false animal rescues that didn't really need rescuing (if they got up, they can get down is my theory), abound, and always make the press ......

Lucy Planned Her Escape ...

 ..... and this blog.

Take the tail (ha ha) of Lucy, the cross-breed dog, apparently stuck 150ft (46m) up a cliff in Swanage, Dorset in October 2023. The usual suspects were on scene, Coast Guards, the Swanage Inshore Lifeboat team (as the tide was coming in) etc. She had gone up the cliff with her doggie friend Sid, but while he had come down when called by their owner, Lucy had headed further up and got tangled up in the dense gorse.

They spent three hours trying to coax the animal down before the darkness fell and they had to stand down. Lucy had been oblivious to their charms and then, with their last attempt over, she apparently got spooked at being alone, and quickly made her own way down the cliff (presumably in the same manner in which she had got up there in the first place).

A chase then ensued, as the dog dodged the would be rescuers, and ran down the beach, with the rescue teams in hot pursuit "like the keystone cops" for over two miles. They eventually realised that the dog was headed home for supper, and they drove to her owners home to await her arrival. Even then when she saw them she went and hid again .... so they called Mrs Kimber (who was still looking for the errant dog), to come home and Lucy was waiting by the garden gate.

Helen Kimber, her mom, simply said "Its incredible."
