Has the world gone gone to hell?

That question has to be asked if you just look around at the state it's in.The Russian invasion of the Ukraine continues with its meat grinder progress, with no apparent appetite from Russia to stop, and no one else having the ability to make it stop. This is despite it being urged to do so by many in the international community, including President Trump.
The Sudan is still in the grip of a civil war between two generals, and with a reported renewal of the genocide massacres against 'non Arabs' i.e Black Muslims in Darfur (in this case the distinction is only observable by those who consider themselves as Arabs, despite the darkness of their own skin and their own African features). No one shows any intention of stepping in to stop it, and indeed, neighbouring states such as Chad, Libya, and the UAE are all backing one side or the other and fanning the flames.
Yemen is still in civil war, with the rebel Houthi's also attacking Israel, in co-ordination with Iran's attacks, this despite President Trump already allowing air strikes on Houthi bases in Yemen. While Israel is now fighting on two other fronts again (after crippling Hezbollah in the Lebanon). It decided that this was the time to attack its existential enemy Iran, before it developed the nine nuclear bombs it has allegedly stockpiled enriched uranium for (its believed that they have enriched Uranium to 60% - bomb grade is 90% and commercial power plant grade is just 3.67% - so Iranian denials of intentions are not believed).
It's believed by many that Israel hopes by this attack to entice President Trump to authorise US armed forces to use B52 carried Bunker buster bombs to hit Iran's mountain protected nuclear facility at Fordow, where the stocks of enriched Uranium are held 262 to 295 feet (around 80 to 90 meters) under a mountain and strengthened bunkers (apparently impervious to anything the Israelis can hit it with). Its believed that its only domestic political considerations that have prevented this happening already.
Elsewhere North Korea is building warships capable of carrying medium range nuclear weapons after the Chinese made the mistake of allowing North Korea to start a nuclear program, and not stopping it. Their protection means that North Korea is a now a full military nuclear power and threat to all countries in the region (including China) and with its possible ICBM missiles, even Europe and the USA. What could possibly go wrong??
In North America US politicians are being killed or attacked on either side of an increasingly divided USA which appears to be irreparably fractured at the moment. In South America Colombian Presidential candidate Miguel Uribe was gunned down and left clinging to life while Mexico is seeing local mayor's shot and killed almost weekly if they defy the drug cartels, while the Venezuelan regime hobbles on with a large portion of its population living as refugees in neighbouring countries, or heading up through central America and Mexico to try and enter the USA. In this they are joined by Hondurans, Salvadorans and Haitians whom we mentioned Trump would see in his in-box at some point.
The rest of the world isn't in great shapes either. Islamist groups range all across the Sahara area and lands further South, with little success by the local forces trying to stop them, and with insurgencies in many other areas, much of the world feels like a war-zone, and we are still degrading the world environment with our population still growing like a cancer on the planet.
Its hard to see the world in a positive light at the moment and it seems to get slowly worse year by year .... no doubt it will muddle on but its a fairly depressing view at the moment.

Well it didn't take Trump long to take 2 weeks. Just 2 days to decide to bomb fordow and other nuclear sites.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be considerable doubt that one bombing run seriously damaged the mountain nuclear site ... repeated strikes over 2 or 3 days may have been required. Thanks for the comment.
DeleteThe Darfur killings and rapes are being recognised as war crimes by the ICC.
