The Epstein files have brought down an unexpected first politician and former supporter ...

| Peter Mandelson In His Last Official Role? |
.... it was unexpected, as the politician is in the UK.
Peter Mandelson, a former Labour Party politician, and master of the dark arts of spin, had recently been unexpectedly made Britain's Ambassador to the USA, this despite his public attacks on President Donald Trump in the past, which were hardly going to endear him to the US president (a man who as we have seen holds grudges for perceived past slights and insults). So perhaps not the wisest of choices as Ambassador to try and serve the UK's interests with the Trump administration, but then who has ever accused Prime Minister Starmer of common sense (he even struggles to decide what a woman is without a high court judgement). Mandelson also had form for
screwing up while in political office, usually by actions performed outside of the role he was holding, having twice been forced to resign from the Government (both also related to very wealthy men). So not exactly a safe pair of
hands. In fact his name has featured a number of times in this blog for
various of escapades (both private and occasionally political) over the decades.
This
time he's been sacked as Ambassador, after his historic close friendship with Jeffrey
Epstein (he one time described him as his 'best pal,' and penned little notes of admiration to him), and his old emails were examined showing that he considered Epstein's conviction for sex offences in soliciting a minor for sex to be 'wrongful' and should be challenged. As usual Starmer supported the unsupportable, until he inevitably ended up sacking Mandelson (as he did with Angela Raynor last week).
Perhaps Mr Starmer should consider the
fact that much of Mandelson's past close friendship with Epstein was
already public record (but not apparently examined more closely), before he was appointed as Ambassador to the USA, and that
perhaps that close friendship with a convicted paedophile should have been a red warning flag (well for most of us) especially as Epstein was a big issue during the US presidential campaign last year ... and so he really shouldn't have been appointed as UK ambassador to the USA.
So Starmer's government is in yet another crisis of its own making, with the Prime Ministers judgement once again called into serious question .... meanwhile the Epstein files rumble on across the Atlantic. Mandelson may be the first to fall, but surely he's not the last?

Ironically it could be in the UK with Starmer next. His bad judgement has created rumours that there could be challenge to him for the leadership of the Labour Party.
ReplyDeleteYour very right. Labour were swept into power with an artificially large majority as Reform took votes from the conservatives letting Labour take seats they normally don't win and may well lose at the next election. But almost since day one they have been floundering and Starmer is under pressure from both the public and his own Mp's. Sacking both Raynor and Mandelson in successive weeks has not been helpful. Thanks for the comment.
DeletePrince Andrew has been back in the news over the Epstein files. He's lost his titles now apart from Prince. But this isn't any new revelations because he was smeared with this story year's ago and has paid a money cost as well.
ReplyDeleteIts ironic that the casualties are so far all in the UK .... Mandelson and Prince Andrew and even his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. Thanks for the comment.
