We have all heard the advice ....

| Drink At Least 8 Glasses Of Water A Day |
.... to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day (how much that is depends on the glass size, but in UK, the NHS recommends 1.2 litres or 6 - 8 200ml glasses = 2 UK pints).
Advice that I can firmly confirm that the UK's National Health Service (NHS) still firmly believe, as they virtually force you to glug the stuff down from dawn to dusk. The arguments I had, that I didn't need or want that amount of water was frankly amazing (although I will admit that I tend towards dehydration more than I should do, and am trying to increase my intake a bit). But researchers from Aberdeen University have found that this is far too much ..... in fact they found that at least half of our water intakes is derived from our food, so they believed that at the very most, you might need is 1.8 litres (UK 3.18 Imperial Pints, US 3.81 Pints), but depending on the water content of your meals, it would normally be considerably less for most people.
They tested 5,604 people from 23 countries aged between 8 days and 96 years, to confirm how water in the body was taken in and how quickly its used up .... Professor John Speakman said "The one size fits all policy for water intake is not supported".
Prof Speakman said. "Clean drinking water isn't free. If people on average drink half a litre more than they need, and you multiply that by 40 million adults in the UK, that means that we're needlessly drinking and peeing 20 million litres of water that we have to supply. There is a cost in doing that."
So there you are then .... drink what you need .... and only what you feel comfortable with.
