.... The Police in Palm Springs, California were starting a campaign targeting drunk drivers, by putting up a roadside display hoarding.
It literally caught its first drunk, when a car careered off the road, missing the workers and police officers present, and a group of pedestrians leaving a nearby theatre, but ploughing straight through the electronic signboard that read, “Don’t Drink & Drive.”

She then exited her car, and leaned on the smashed sign resting on its side to steady herself, as she walked and took a swat at a police officer approaching her. She was arrested on the spot as she attempted to get away from the car and the wreckage. The driver, Clarissa Hernandez, a 27 year old from Texas, had drunk at least a pint of Tequila before getting in to her Land Rover, and attempting to drive home.
However she was less than sorry about the arrest or her actions (She was released the same day on a $5,000 bail bond) ... in court 10 months later, she was described in the police report on the incident as “angry, argumentative and hostile,” and subsequently admitted to drinking a pint of tequila with a final small shot of tequila 10 minutes before getting in her car (despite the blood alcohol levels showing otherwise).
She pleaded guilty to one misdemeanour count each, of driving under the influence of alcohol, and wilfully resisting arrest, and was sentenced to three years of probation (I assume she also got penalty points on her licence).
