Vicky Pryce (nee Vasiliki Kourmouzi - she is Greek), along with former husband MP Chris Huhne, has previously been convicted of perverting the course of justice, and she was sentenced to eight months in prison. Currently she is reported as being personally involved with Denis MacShane (b. Josef Denis Matyjaszek), a one-time Labour Party MP (who was himself imprisoned, in December 2013, for fraudulent claiming of Parliamentary expenses), and who is suspended from the party.
So you would think that she would not be the first choice of economists anyone would call upon to give opinions on the UK economy ..... but you would be wrong
She has apparently still found a little niche with the BBC, who still regularly use her as an economic talker on the TODAY Radio 4 business slot e.g. the 31st October 2016, she has a also featured on BBC Wales (Vaughan Roderick's guests include Vicky Pryce, Professor Stuart Cole and Stephen Kinnock).
Now this has to beg the question why?
After all she is a proven perjurer and is consorting with a proven fraudster .... so how does that qualify you to make economic predictions on the UK economy, or to vouchsafe any opinions on how good Mark Carney is as Governor of the Bank of England? Why would anyone in their right mind listen to her opinions?
Its actually hard to explain why she is being used at all - I certainly can't find any rational explanation other than its some sort of left wing back scratching exercise by some BBC producers who are 'looking after one of our own'! I certainly understand the concept of 'I did something, I paid the price. One has to look forward, and get a second chance', but well, is that enough of an excuse to give well paying radio gigs to an economist with a track record like this?

All comments are welcomed, or even just thanks if you enjoyed the post. But please make any comment relevant to the post it appears under. Off topic comments will be blocked or removed.
Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.
