Glasto England Is A Good Safe Time For Most Party Goers ... |
But I, like most of you, will have never heard of its Welsh counterpart ...... the GlastonBarry music festival ...
.... there's probably a good reason why.
Now is it me, or are the Welsh valleys rather strange places? I have recently reported on naked men roaming the Welsh mountains, while the sexual practises of some of the males, are distinctly odd, if not downright dangerous.
Anyways, they certainly know how to party hard down there .... so at the ultimate tribute band festival of GlastonBarry, plenty of alcohol is consumed as tribute bands pay homage to Elvis, Madness, Queen, The Beatles, Oasish, Stereotonics and Led Zepplin to name but a few. The queue for the portaloo's was long and tiresome, as party goers tried to get rid of that alcohol.
However, tempers flared last July, when Jade Penberthy, and her mother Amanda, had queued up to use those portable toilets, and they sparked a major fracas when Jade attacked another lady in the queue, by smashing a can of Strongbow Dark Fruit cider into another ladies mouth, where the cider exploded in her face, and also calling her a “fat cow” and “goofy”, and a "slag" ....
This wasn't the end of the fight, as the combatants all received reinforcements as members of their families arrived, and a full scale brawl broke out. Amanda, her mother had joined in the attack, straddling the subject of her daughters ire, a Miss Rebecca Johnson, while punching her head on the muddy ground, until the event security stepped and pulled her off Miss Johnson. Miss Johnson was left "bruised" with blood coming from her mouth and reportedly had a broken arm.
The Penberthy's, of Barry South Wales later claimed self defence, but were convicted of assault at Cardiff Magistrates Court. It came out in court that apparently like the hillbillys of the US, the two families had been feuding for 16 years, and that Rebecca Johnson was married to Amanda’s nephew Craig, and that this wasn't the first argument between them.
District Judge Stephen Harmes said that 'There is a family feud here and it needs nipping in the bud' and handed both women a 12 month community order, with ten days rehabilitation, and the two women were also given a 12 month restraining order, banning them from contacting Miss Johnson. Amanda was also ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work, pay £150 compensation, £300 costs and an £85 victim surcharge, while Jade was given a £750 fine, £150 compensation, £300 costs and a £75 victim surcharge.
The Hatfield Clan Could Teach The Penberthy's and Johnson's How To Feud. |
Now if I know my hillbilly law, this will only intensify the feud, and there will be more trouble in Barry.
You're right, never heard of it. Interesting story.
ReplyDeleteOne of the pleasures in having a blog, is being able to take odd stories to an admittedly small, but new audience, who I hope appreciate them as I do. There's a lot of strange stuff going on under the surface in Britain, that only occasionally gets thrown into the light of publicity. I keep my eye out for the news snippets that float up, and then back track to the source, and hope that there's a little gem. Thanks for your comment Vroomfondel.
