Not Impressed

Tom Watson is a Labour MP and deputy leader of the party. He took £540,000 in election campaign contributions (which was used to help pay his office costs), from the multi-millionaire Max Moseley. The payments were, £40,000 in August 2015, £200,000 in June 2016 and a final £300,000 donation in February 2017 ....

Strange Connections Between Two Politicians And Eras
Strange Connections Between Two Politicians And Eras ....

Mr Moseley is the son of UK Fascist leader Sir Oswald Moseley, who led the Union of British Fascists, and later founded the far-right Union Movement. Mr Moseley states that he no longer supports such views. This political alliance was odd enough to attract much interest in the press, as that amount of money to just one MP is highly unusual.

Now its that fact that is actually the point of attraction for these two natural class enemies .... they both want the UK press muzzled. Mr Moseley, is actively working to this trying to control the UK press via 'Impress', the state-backed press regulator, of which he is the main financial supporter through a family trust. Although he is by far its biggest financial backer, he states that it's totally independent of his opinions, but he still prefers to downplay his role in the financial funding of Impress.

Impress is actually a rather notable failure, in that it regulates no major media outlets, despite being the official state-supported body (a David Cameron idea from the Leveson press enquiry, which won little public support, as it was perceived as being largely to protect celebrities, millionaires and politicians from scrutiny). Impress supports the idea of implementing section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013. Under section 40 of this act, publishers not signed up to a Government-backed regulator (Impress) would be forced to pay the costs of both sides in a libel action even if they won.

A recent YouGov poll survey of 1,632 people, commissioned by the News Media Association, which represents the UK’s national, regional and local news organisations said that press regulation should be conducted by the press, with only one in 25 people supporting a state-sanctioned regulator funded by the former motor sport boss Mr Mosley. Only four per cent of those questioned said that they supported a regulator funded by donations from wealthy individuals and trusts, with 49 per cent backing an industry-funded regulator such as Ipso.

Mr Moseley is also trying to get the courts to stop the UK press from repeating facts about his sex life ... in particular the Sado Masochism sex party antics he was caught in, where it was alleged that uniforms were worn and prostitutes employed. He has had some success in this aim, with court victories in France and Germany over Googles search engines results (which can be bypassed by anyone with a little computer nous), returning images of him at the party. He also got some sort of settlement with Google UK over the issue .... he is now apparently trying to use the Data Protection Act to enforce this .... unsurprisingly his legal activities keep all these stories in the news, which is kind of counter productive. He would have been far better just let matters lie, and it would have been yesterdays news within a few days.

However in 2011 he lost a case in the European Court of Human Rights in which he tried to force newspapers to warn people before exposing their private lives so they could have the opportunity to seek a court injunction to prevent publication. Thankfully the court ruled against this blatant attempt to allow the rich to suppress stories, stating that a "pre-notification requirement would inevitably affect political reporting and serious journalism."

Jeremy Corbyn, backed by Mr Watson, has recently stated that he wants introduce new controls on the press when he becomes Prime Minister .... he said that “change is coming” after reports on his links to a Czechoslovak Communist spy in the 1980s emerged. Considering his public meetings with HAMAS support groups at Pro Palestine rallies, and public support for various left-wing dictators, I'm surprised he's bothered.

Mr Corbyn Normally Not Shy About His Affiliations ....

Mr Watson started his campaign against the press way back in 2015 when he gave the second annual Leveson lecture for the Hacked Off campaign group. In the speech he said parliament must deal with the “unfinished business” of press regulation as the publishers were a “little group of greedy, cruel men”, who had “raised two fingers to Leveson, to parliament, to their victims and to the public". He accused them of “fixing” legislation that affected them and operating “like a mafia.”

Watson recently told the House of Commons, that Mr Mosley did not hold the views contained in a 1961 election leaflet, attributed as published by Moseley, which said that “Tuberculosis, VD and other terrible diseases like leprosy are on the increase. Coloured immigration threatens your children’s health.” ...

Watson also went on record, and praised Mr Mosley for campaigning for better regulation of the press, saying: “He is a man though, who in the face of great family tragedy and overwhelming media intimidation, chose to use his limited resources to support the weak against the strong.” Mr Moseley's 'limited means' was estimated as being about $16 million in 2012 ... He has so far given Impress £4 million ...... just like a modern Robin Hood I guess.

Under pressure from the very press who they want 'reformed', Labour has said it wont take any more contributions from Mr Moseley, but Mr Watson won't return the £540,000 .... How the hypocrisy on the Labour Front benches is not spotted by the average Labour voter is beyond me ...

.... Maybe Labour voters these days are just not bothered about these issues anymore?

  1. Corbyn has just today admitted to being a member of a Facebook group that hosts anti semitic comments and posts. He is truly remarkable in British politics as no one else could behave like this and still be remotely credible let alone leader of a party. It tells you a lot about how anti Jewish the Labour Party and it's members are that he is still in charge.

    1. Anti-Semitism is Labours dirty little problem. This despite having just had a Jewish leader. Its inherent in the large Muslim membership of the party in many inner city wards. Mr Corbyn left the Facebook group you mention sometime in 2015. He states that he was never aware of its Anti-Semitic content. However many of its Labour Party membership were, and have just been suspended from the party.

He, and the party he leads, continually flirt with electoral disaster by supporting the sorts of hard left politics that Corbyn habitually followed when he was just a lefty outsider.

Whether hist cult like following care, is another matter.

      Thanks for the comment.

    2. The anti-Semitism problem that festered for years erupted into a leaking boil last week.

It appears that the apparent toleration of this racism, has allowed toxic pockets to form amongst the Corbyn support base.

  2. Corbyn supports the Palestinians (although he denies being a HAMAS supporter), however even the mainstream Palestinians are holocaust deniers.
