Bad Cinema Manners |
The reason why he alleges that the date had gone wrong, was that she had started texting her friends after the movie started.
He filed the claim in the state capital of Austin, after initially asking her for a refund via social media, citing the reason as being that her behaviour constituted "a threat to civilised society. It was kind of a first date from hell." The lawsuit, added that the texting was a "direct violation" of the cinema's policy and she "adversely" affected his and other patrons' viewing experience.
Not surprisingly she has refused to repay him on the age old western grounds that "he took me out on a date". This is the same logic or argument that allows women to traditionally keep the engagement ring, if she breaks up from her fiancée. She claims that she only texted a friend who was having a fight with her boyfriend, just two or three times. "I had my phone low and I wasn't bothering anybody,"
In an attempt to prevent bad publicity, the cinema company's chief executive, offered to compensate the man the lost amount, in the form of a gift certificate, if he drops the lawsuit. So far he has refused as its a matter of principle which "is important as defendant's behaviour is a threat to civilized society".
You can kind of see where he is coming from .... but still?
Yes, you kind of see where he's coming from.
ReplyDeleteI've bought a drink for a girl in the past who, when she should have graciously declined the offer, accepted the free drink and then made herself scarce. She was so good looking though it was difficult to care about the price of a drink - actually two drinks as it was two girls I think. It was quite a long time ago - and in Norway. Yes, the drinks are expensive over there but the girls are that much prettier too.
I heard this week about a study which confirmed what we already knew - if you're good looking you'll have a better life.
We have all had bad dates .... but I have never asked for the money back. It may be a generational change. Or perhaps I wasn't good looking and was just pleased to get a date, even a bad one.
