.... specifically having the tyres of their cars slashed.
The police had made no progress in finding the perpetrator(s) using plain clothes patrol officers and so tempers were frayed in the village. They demanded that the authorities put up security cameras. This did the trick when a dog called 'Billy' (odd name for an Italian dog!!), was spotted chewing on the tyres of several cars.
It appeared that the dog had a gum disease and was chewing on the rubber to alleviate the painful condition. As the dog had caused thousands of Euros in damage, the police held the owner (who was unnamed), liable for the damage.
But just when you thought that this was the only example of a dog liking rubber ..... in 2014, Jess the Border Collie, who lived with her owners in the village of Brampton, Cumbria, UK, was performing the same trick. For about 6 months, this little tyke had been using her daily walks off leash to bite the nearside tyres of parked cars on her route.
This caused slow punctures and the police had been called in with ten reports of vandalism. CCTV shots of her chewing merrily nailed her, and the owner Edward Morgan reimbursed all those who had reported the incidents and said she would be walked on leash in future.
