.... our little furry friends also get affected.
And in the US as the legalisation of cannabis expands nationwide, vets are reporting an increase in the number of drugged up stoned dogs (and to a lesser degree cats). For instance in the city of New York, vets have reported a 400 per cent increase in cannabis affected dogs. These dogs have managed to eat the discarded joints on the floor (which actually are the most powerful parts of the spliff), but also the dogs inhale the fumes.
Dogs of course notoriously are food raiders, so marijuana gummies, or cannabis laced chocolate cookies are actively hunted in the houses of users .... unfortunately often successfully. The affects on the animals are not good, they arrive at the vets presenting with dilated pupils, loss of balance, with trouble walking, vomiting and nausea, and apparently hallucinating.
Apparently its the dogs own physical characteristics that cause a part of the problem, they have far more cannabinoid receptors than human, and so are far more affected by the drug than humans are. The other thing is that the dogs don't enjoy the experience, as they don't have the mental capacity to appreciate the hallucinations, and that's ignoring all the distressing physical symptoms.
