| Rotting Meat Dumped In Christchurch |
..... and especially in the bizarre news category.
But by September 2023, it had been hit with not one, but two strange events. Firstly the noses of the residents of the suburbs of Wigram and Hornby, were assailed by a horrendous stench, after some one started dumping more than half a tonne of rotting raw meat in to public rubbish bins. The first dump was 485lb (220kg) of meat on the 28th of August, then another dumping of 485lb of meat on the 11th of September, and then a further dumping of 551lb (250kg) on the 19th of September. With the approach of the Southern hemisphere summer, the population was hoping that either the dumping's would stop, or the perpetrator(s) of the dumps would be caught. Officials believed that it was likely that someone was trying to avoid paying disposal fees, and that it could potentially be the remnants of home kill.
Meanwhile, on the 25th of September, in the suburb of Avonhead, residents opening their mail boxes (I assume NZ has US style boxes on posts at the front of the properties), only to find something long, slightly rough and furry. It was lamb’s tails and a number of residents found them, and some were even spotted on the pavements near Bevington St.

| Lambs Tails Dumped in Christchurch |
Farmers will dock lambs tails to prevent 'fly strike' where faeces attracts flies to the lambs hind regions to lay eggs. However the nearest farm was 15 minutes drive away and in any case the farmer would have a safe method of disposal .... so once again it was a mystery.
