The Wizard of Oz - Most Influential Movie? |
They compiled the list order by examining the 47,000 films listed on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb website), and then allocating a influence score to each movie by the number of times it was referenced by subsequent other movies.
The top ten, and in fact the top twenty, were all made before 1980.
- The Wizard of Oz (1939).
- Star Wars (1977).
- Psycho (1960).
- King Kong (1933).
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).
Metropolis - A Great Picture In Every Sense. |
8. The Birth of a Nation (1915).
9. Frankenstein (1931).
10. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).
The other aspect of this listing that interested me was that I have actually watched all 10 of them.
"Films influence on other movies" may be an objective measure but it doesn't say whether the film is good to watch or not. They may have great lighting, acting, direction or sets which have inspired film makers without having given much else to an audience.
ReplyDeleteAn aeroplane may be assembled beautifully and finished superbly, but does it actually fly well? Sometimes it's a tatty old biplane which is best for the job.
I enjoyed all of the films listed at one time or other, so I thinks its actually proved to be a very good measure of quality.
