The man, who remained nameless, had gone to ask Dr Lun to remove two magnets from his fingers. Bemused, the Doctor asked why he had the magnets there in the first place. The man explained that he had had them embedded in his fingers 40 years earlier to enable him to cheat at a dice game called Sic Bo.
He used the magnets and a magnetised dice to manipulate the scores, and thus cheat other gamblers. But he had now decided to reform and give up both cheating and gambling, and flee the country. He thought the magnets might be a problem at Airport Security ..... I suspect that his sudden reformation was forced by his trick being identified by some very angry gamblers ..... incidently, this practice of inserting magnets is popular with western body hackers and grinders (who are part of the emerging Trans-humanist movement who want to push the limits of human enhancement), despite this type of modification being illegal in many US states and some countries,
But in Singapore, three Chinese nationals were caught with very sticky fingers ..... the three had been gambling and losing at the Marina Bay Sands Casino, when Huang Chunsheng, Jiang Renjing and Zheng Jiansheng (all aged over 50), decided to try and recover their loses with a cunning ruse. They each covered their hands with a strong glue and then used the glue to surreptitiously pick up other gamblers casino chips.
They managed managed to steal $1,575 (£1,242) before they were spotted by an alert gambler and caught. In May 23023, Jiang was sentenced to seven months’ jail, Huang got eight months behind bars, while Zheng, who had also pleaded guilty to two offences under the Casino Control Act, was sentenced to 10 months’ jail.
