..... This was about 4am, when you would expect it to be reasonably safe for 10 minutes while the driver took care of business and put some fuel in.
But no, thieves never sleep, and this adage was proved correct because a female thief, described as being "of Aboriginal appearance, in her early 30s, and wearing dark clothing and carrying a white handbag" was spotted on CCTV getting in to the van and driving away.However, despite the prominent appearance of the van, and the new driver, both of which you would think would stand out to the police, no arrests where immediately made, and her, the van, and the Krispy Kreme doughnuts were not found for over a week. Krispy Kreme had to run extra shifts to make up the shortfall for their outlets.
But eventually, the police found the abandoned vehicle more than a week later in a suburban car park. A 28-year-old woman was later arrested at St Marys Railway Station, and she was charged with "take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and travel or attempt travel without a valid ticket," police said. The woman was refused bail, but the Krispy Kremes were ruined and so the police destroyed them.
