..... in August 2023 pedestrians and cyclists in the Paris suburb of Saint-Maur-des-Fosses were being terrorised by youths driving in a speeding beige Citroen, who were throwing eggs or large potatoes at those they pass.
The gang, dubbed the 'bande d'omelettes' ('omelette gang') had left their mostly female victims, angry, shaken and occasionally bruised. In all 10 people were attacked in what were denounced as sexist in nature (due to it being nearly all women victims).
One of the victims shared a video of the fist-sized potato she received while cycling: "I'd rather it happened to me than to an older person who could have really hurt themselves." The tag name was given to them after a commentator on social media posted that they only "needed a few mushrooms to make a good omelette."
Sadly, after August 2023, there were no reports of arrests, or thankfully of further attacks ......
